Welcome to Discover NASA:

From Our Town to Outer Space!

This amazing interactive exhibit will be at EMPL from July 30 to October 12.

Please come as often as you wish.  It is yours to use.

We at the Library are proud to be one of only eight libraries in the country to be selected to host Discover NASA.  This interactive, all-ages exhibition is an inside look at NASA, America’s space agency. Discover NASA covers six key NASA areas: Human Exploration, Earth Science, Mars Exploration, Solar System and Beyond, Aeronautics, and Technology.

We have partnered with The Cradle of Aviation, The Amateur Observers of NY and the Long Island Children’s Museum.  Please look at our schedule of programs available.  Many are hosted by these organizations. Additional programming will be added for the months of September and October.  On Sunday, October 9, we will be holding our big Discover NASA event with programming, films, exhibits prizes and contests.

The exhibition was developed by the Space Science Institute’s National Center for Interactive Learning(NCIL). It is part of NCIL’s STAR Library Education Network(STAR_Net). The project was made possible through support from NASA.

Getting young people interested in science and technology!

Getting young people interested in science and technology can be a challenge, but Discover NASA strives to make it fun. The exhibit includes stunning imagery, hands-on activities, and multimedia experiences such as a near real-time kiosk called Eyes on Exoplanets; an immersive experience of astronauts living onboard the International Space Station; a touch table interactive where users can build their own solar systems; two large, touchable meteorite samples; a wind tunnel interactive; and many more engaging activities.
